TESTING

The goal of our standardized testing program is to measure a student’s abilities and progress and help the staff examine the effectiveness of the curriculum.  Students consistently score above national and state norms.  An overview of testing performed at North Allegheny includes:

·          The Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) is taken annually by all students in grades 2-8 and measures student achievement in the areas of reading, written language, and mathematics.  Results are reported using national and local norms.  The Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) is taken annually by all students in grades 2, 4, and 7.  Administration of the CogAT allows the District to determine expected levels of achievement for individual students and the District.

·          PLAN, PSAT/NMSQT, ACT, SAT reasoning test and SAT subject tests. These tests are taken by students in grades 10-12. Reporting ACT, SAT reasoning test, SAT subject test scores to the colleges is the responsibility of the student.

·          Other tests are used for identification and diagnostic purposes. Additional information is available from the Psychological Services Department.
