WINTER TRYOUT SCHEDULE

Training Staff/ImPACT TESTING SCHEDULED FOR WINTER SPORTS
Any student in Grades 7, 9 or 11, interested in participating in a North Allegheny winter sport must take the ImPact Concussion Test in order to participate.  If a student is in 8th, 10th, or 12th grade and did not have the ImPact Test last year or did not play, they must take the ImPact test in order to tryout.  Testing will be done in the NASH Computer Labs according to the schedule that may be accessed below.  Tests will be conducted on the second floor in Room 240.

Football/TIGERS CRUSH LATROBE, 47-0, IN PLAYOFF OPENER
The Tigers rolled to a 47-0 victory over Latrobe in the first round of the WPIAL Quad A playoffs at Newman Stadium on Friday night.  Junior tailback Alex Papson got the Tigers off and running with a 25 yard touchdown run, and senior Grant Huckestein scored three more touchdowns, two on pass receptions from senior QB Justin Brozick, as NA took a 30-0 halftime lead.  Brozick also connected with junior WB Matt Steinbeck on a 25-yard screen pass for a score as part of a 7-for-7 night.  Junior FB Seth Marx ran 21 yards for a final touchdown, and senior PK Jackson Cox added six extra points and a 38-yard field goal for the winning Tigers.  NA will meet rival North Hills next week in the quarterfinals as the Indians upset McKeesport, 19-7.  The date, site and time of the game will be announced by the WPIAL.  More details later.

Ice Hockey/STATE COLLEGE BLANKS TIGERS, 5-0, IN HOME OPENER
The State College Little Lions shut out the Tigers, 5-0, in the home opener for NA at Bladerunners in Warrendale on Friday night.  With the loss, the NA record in PIHL play dropped to 0-2-1.  The Tigers will host rival Seneca Valley on Tuesday at Bladerunners with game time set for 7:50 pm.  More details later.

Athletic Department/"SPORTS NUTRITION AND SUPPLEMENT USE FOR STUDENT ATHLETES" PRESENTATION SCHEDULED FOR NOVEMBER 18th
The Athletic Department is proud to present a presentation on "Sports Nutrition and Supplement Use for Student Athletes."  The presentation will be made by Frank Velasquez, Jr. in the Ponce Room at the Baierl Center on Wednesday, November 18th.  The presentation is a PowerPoint program designed to educate high school coaches, parents and most importantly student/athletes.  Mr. Velasquez will be stressing the right way and wrong way to keep your body fueled and ready for optimal performance in the class room, in the weight room and on the field.  Proper sports nutrition can take one's performance to the next level.

Training Staff/WEIGHT ASSESSMENT FOR ALL WRESTLERS
The North Allegheny Training Staff will conduct mandatory weight assessments for all wrestlers in grades 7 through 12 in the Baierl Center Training Room.  Weight assessment tests will be conducted between 6:00 pm and 8:45 pm on Monday, November 16th, Tuesday, November 17th, and Wednesday, November 18th.  Only the wrestling candidates will be permitted in the weight assessment area.

MRSA Infections/DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH RECOMMENDATIONS
The Pennsylvania Department of Health has released information on how to deal with MRSA infections.  General recommendations and other information on MRSA  including spread, treatment, and prevention and control are available on the PADOH fact sheet.  The Allegheny County Health Department has also issued guidelines for the treatment of MRSA.  Click on the following link for more information:   (http://www.achd.net/mrsa/MRSAMain.html)

Athletic Director/INFECTIOUS DISEASE PREVENTION GUIDELINES
The National Athletic Trainers' Association has released a set of guidelines of precautions for the prevention of the spread of communicable and infectious diseases.  Due to the nature of competitive sports at the high school level, there is an elevated risk of infectious diseases being spread by skin-to-skin contact.

Hall of Fame/NA HALL OF FAME CONTINUES MEMBERSHIP DRIVE
The North Allegheny Athletic Hall of Fame is currently conducting its annual membership drive.  All athletes who graduated in, or before, 2004 are eligible for consideration.  To nominate an athlete, you must be a member of the Hall of Fame Association.  (More)

Volleyball(F)/SENECA VALLEY RALLIES TO DEFEAT LADY TIGERS, 3-2, IN WPIAL SEMIFINALS
The Lady Tigers took a 2-1 lead after three games in the WPIAL Class AAA Semifinals at North Hills on Thursday night only to see Seneca Valley rally to win the final two games and eliminate defending champion NA with a 3-2 victory.  Senior OH Leeanne Haus led the Lady Tigers with 15 kills while junior MB Kassie Freyermuth added nine.  Senior setter Logan Meinert was outstanding in the match with numerous assists along with eight kills, two aces and a block but it was not enough as the NA season ended.  Seneca Valley will meet Mt. Lebanon tomorrow night for the WPIAL championship.  (More)

Rowing/NOVICE CREWS SHINE AT AMERICAN HERITAGE
Tiger novices, who had their last chance this weekend to race in the novice category, made the best of that opportunity, bringing home two gold and one silver medal from the 7th Annual American Heritage River Fall Classic at Wyandotte, Michigan.  Gold was won by the Women's Jr. Novice Eight and the Men's Jr. Novice Four.  Adding to the two gold medals was one silver, won by the Women's Jr. Novice 4.  (More)

Ice Hockey/TIGERS DROP 4-3 HEARTBREAKER TO SHALER IN OVERTIME
The Tigers fought back from a 3-0 deficit to tie defending PIHL Champion Shaler in regulation time only to see the Titans score the game winner in overtime.  Freshman Joey Griffin,, senior James Harper and senior Matt Ogle scored the NA goals.  The Tigers will host State College on Friday night at Bladerunners in Warrendale in the home opener.  (More)

Inline Hockey/STRONG THIRD PERIOD GIVES BALDWIN 5-2 VICTORY OVER TIGERS
Baldwin broke a 1-1 tie with four third-period goals to take a 5-2 decision over NA at the RMU-Island Sports Center on Saturday night.  Junior Lloyd Carmack and senior Nick Schuble scored the NA goals while senior goaltender Austin Naylor made 32 saves.  NA will meet Pine-Richland next Sunday at the RMU-Island Sports Center with game time set for 1:45 pm.  (More)

Water Polo(F)/GIRLS FINISH 8th AT STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Lady Tigers finished in 8th place at the State Championships at North Penn High School last weekend.  NA finished the season as Western Division Champions.  Senior Steph Graham was named to the All-State 2nd team while sophomore Meghan Mahoney was selected to the All-State 3rd team.  North Penn won the title with an 8-7 victory over Wilson.  (More)

Football/TIGERS TAKE CARE OF NORTH HILLS, 28-3, TO WRAP UP CONFERENCE CROWN
After a shaky start, the Tigers settled down and went on to defeat North Hills, 28-3, in the conference finale at Newman Stadium on Senior Night on Friday night.  Junior Alex Papson started the scoring with a 72-yard run early in the second quarter and then added an 11-yard score late as NA took a 14-0 halftime lead.  After a NH field goal early in the third quarter, senior halfback Grant Huckestein pulled in a 16-yard scoring strike from senior QB Justin Brozick with Brozick adding a final score on a 7-yard keeper late in the game.  With the win, the Tigers finished conference play with a 5-0 record and the conference title with the overall mark improving to 8-1.  NA will host a First Round playoff game next Friday at Newman Stadium.  Pairings will be announced on Monday.  (More)

Cross Country/GIL LEADS BOYS TO WPIAL TITLE; GIRLS FINISH THIRD
Junior Ryan Gil captured first place to lead the Tigers to the WPIAL Class AAA championship at Cooper's Lake in Slippery Rock on Thursday afternoon.  NA finished with 92 points to second place Baldwin's 109.  The Lady Tigers took third place behind Norwin and North Hills.  The championship was the fifth consecutive title for the boys!  Both teams qualified for the PIAA Championships next Saturday at Hershey.  (More)

Soccer(F)/GAPCZYNSKI NAMED TO WPIAL FIRST TEAM ALL-STARS; FOUR LADY TIGERS SELECTED TO ALL-SECTION TEAM
Senior midfielder Taylor Gapczynski was selected to the All-WPIAL First team All-Stars.  In addition, senior defender Larissa Steeb, senior forward Kylie Fuller, and senior goalie Rachel Middleman, along with Gapczysnki, were all named to the All-Section team!
CONGRATULATIONS TO TAYLOR, LARISSA, KYLIE AND RACHEL!!!!
